I've been kind of happy about this long-winding TV writers' strike for one reason: Late Night With Conan O'Brien has never been better. I don't know if you've been watching the show since he came back on this month, but it almost seems like Conan's writers have been keeping him down through the years, stifling his giddy comedic side that has been completely let loose these past few weeks. There was the German techno light show, the zip line through the studio, the amazing singing of "Blue Moon of Kentucky"; the list just goes on and on. Maybe his strike beard has unleashed his full creative powers, but even last night after he appeared freshly debristled, the pre-interview segment still cracked me up:
Yeah, I'm sure by the time you read this NBC will have yanked the clip from YouTube, so sorry about that. The point is, I'm sure Conan and the other late night fellas are exhausted from having to carry their own shows but it's been good to remind us of who actually has talent and who should just clear the way for someone funnier. Have you tuned into Last Call with Carson Daly? Train wreck; awkward but-I-can't-look-away train wreck. So strike on, writers, so we can continue to see the true mettle of America's funnymen.
