I need to thank Mike and Janell when I visited them in Vermont for turning me on to steel cut oats, aka Irish oatmeal. Cooking up a bowl in the morning is truly a treat that keeps me happily filled to lunchtime. A few spoons of brown sugar, a small pat of butter melting on top, and a splash of creamy organic milk makes a breakfast my ancestors must nod approvingly at from their cottages in the sky.
